SalsaBahrain.com was founded in 2002 by Celi Fonseca, a native of Brazil and her husband
Faisal Hussona. Celi is a gifted Dancer who commenced her career
after graduating
from Professor Jose Augusto Dance School in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
She won her first dance competition on “Xou da Xuxa” on Brazil’s Globo Television
Network in 1990, worked as a dancer in the television series as Chico Anisio Show and
appeared in commercials which included working with Brazil’s top international dance
master and entertainer, Carlinhos de Jesus.
In 1991 Celi migrated to New Zealand. In the same year, she joined her sister Selma
Fonseca and Isac da Silva, in their dance company performing around the country.
Three years later she had established her own Latin Dance Company.
The group consisted
of 10 highly skilled and trained dancers who were performing on every major stage
in the country.
While in NZ she appeared in TV commercials and as dancer in Television series such
as Hercules and Xena and toured with New Zealand's top Latin bands such as Kantuta,
Banda Latina, Macumba, Sound Latino and Nativo.
In 1996, along with Latin Band Kantuta, Celi began her Arabian adventure introducing
and propagating Latino culture in the UAE. Two years later she returned with Los
Amigos Band to UAE, teaching and performing in the Dubai’s first Latin American
Club Savage Garden.
Over the years she has performed and taught various forms of Latin Dance accross
countries such as Brazil, New Zealand, Pacific Island of Samoa, American Samoa,
Dubai, Australia and Bahrain.
SalsaBahrain has greatly contributed to the development of the Latin Scene in Bahrain
from teaching hundreds of students and organizing many cultural, dance and entertainment
events. These included the first major international event "Baile Latino",
held over 3 days featuring the
Salsa World Champions
Oliver Pineda and Luda Kroiter, Bahrain's first Salsa competition, and a series
of Salsa workshops conducted by Oliver Pineda voted the best male Salsa instructor
in the World.
